Worth it? Yes — our top choice on the island Best for: Couples, repeat travelers, relaxed luxury Price range: $$$–$$$$ Would we go back? Absolutely (we have, many times)
Summary:
We have stayed at El Presidente countless times, and it is consistently our
favorite hotel on the island. The property delivers on location, service, and
overall experience, but your stay will depend heavily on the room you book.
Choose wisely, and this is one of the best experiences you can have here.
Choose wrong, and it can feel like a completely different hotel.
Room Strategy (This Matters A Lot)
Not all rooms are created equal.
Avoid:
Entry-level “Classic Rooms” (often unrenovated, some with rooftop views
that feel dark and underwhelming)
Best
value: Pool rooms — larger, quieter, and a great option if you are
watching budget
Pro
tip: You do NOT need to book an “Outdoor Shower” category. Several
ground floor rooms near the pool also have outdoor showers
Best
for convenience: Ground floor Ocean or Reef View — steps from the
beach and pool
Best
for views: Upper floors — larger balconies and elevated ocean views
Personal preference:
I
prefer ground floor for easy access and relaxing on the patio
EJ
prefers top floors for the panoramic ocean views
Suite Insights
King
Reef Suite: Have toured it and would not hesitate to book
Presidential
Sapphire Suite: Beautiful and spacious, perfect for groups
Only
downside: very far from main areas of the hotel (near the marina)
Food & Dining
The breakfast buffet is extensive, almost overwhelming. If
you are not a big breakfast person, ordering à la carte is a better experience.
Every meal we have had on property has been consistently
strong.
Spa & Wellness
The spa is a standout:
Rustic,
peaceful setting
Excellent
massage therapists (not always a given on islands)
Cold
plunge area is a highlight
Skip: The “mini facial” add-on — overpriced and not
worth it
Hair and makeup services, however, were excellent.
Pool & Beach Experience
Infinity
pool is calm and relaxing
Poolside
service is excellent
Cabanas:
Highly recommend booking (early)
Best
pick: Cabana 5 — oceanfront but more shaded
Snorkeling (Major Highlight)
This is one of the best snorkeling experiences we have had
anywhere.
You can see as much in the swim area and along the wall as
you would on many dives.
Bring your own mask and snorkel if you can.
Final Take
El Presidente stands out as the best hotel on the island in
our experience, but it is not a one-size-fits-all property. Room selection
makes all the difference.
Get that right, and this is a place you will want to return
to again and again.
